Beyond the Quay
Conditions below the waterline can be difficult to assess from the surface. An underwater survey provides an opportunity to inspect accessible areas while the vessel remains afloat and establish a documented record of their observed condition.
G.B. Potts provides independent underwater hull inspections to document the observed condition of a vessel's accessible underwater areas. Depending on the assignment, the survey may cover hull condition, visible damage and defects, propellers, rudders, sea chests, gratings, anodes, marine growth and other accessible underwater components.
Where required, underwater photographic or video documentation can be used to support the survey findings and provide a record of the conditions observed.

The underwater hull can be inspected for visible damage, defects, deterioration, fouling and other relevant conditions, including accessible areas of the bottom shell plating, sides, bilge and keel.

Inspection Without Bringing the Vessel Into Dry-DockInspection Without Bringing the Vessel Into Dry-Dock G.B. Potts can provide attendance and witnessing support for In-Water Surveys (IWS) and Underwater Inspection instead of Dry-Docking (UWILD), according to the requirements of the particular assignment. The scope of an IWS or UWILD is determined by the applicable requirements and the areas required to be inspected. Depending on the assignment, this may involve examination of the underwater hull, appendages, propeller, rudder, sea chests, gratings, and other relevant components, supported by underwater visual documentation and required measurements.
An underwater hull condition survey is an inspection of the accessible underwater areas of a vessel to document their observed condition, including visible damage, defects, fouling and relevant underwater fittings and appendages.
